I have worked on website redesign projects in the capacity of information architect/user experience consultant and also as lead designer.
In recent years, a variety of large redesign projects have enabled me to develop my skills in this area, each project presenting it's own unique challenges.
Core redesign competencies
- Current site analysis and problem identification
- Production and presentation of redesign recommendations as well as involvement in ongoing client/supplier negotiations
- Creation of personas (user scenarios) based on in-depth analysis of customer data and meetings with relevent customer facing personnel and business stake-holders
- User centred design methodologies including usability testing (both in usability labs and on client site)
- Creation of wireframes, site maps, user journey flows, and visual mock-ups (image based and HTML)
- Design and implementation of robust information architectures
- Production of original, impactful, appealling visual designs
- Consolidation or removal of excess content
- Navigation design and labelling
- Involvement in the design, selection and implementation of new content management system (CMS) templates and template modules
- Creation of content matrix where all the current site pages are logged and shown in terms of their hierarchy
- Prefered user terminology analysis carried out, the results of which factored into the IA and SEO plan
- Search engine optimisation plan prepared and implemented
- Accessibility best practice applied
- Writing of new copy where required
- Page and section naming conventions agreed and applied
